We are in the last week of school.  Grades cards will be mailed to you.  If you child owes any lunch money or library fine , please  pay by Friday.

5th grade will be walking to the high school track to do field day.

We will be having an honor’s assembly on Friday morning.

Friday is a half day of school.

This is going to be a busy 2 weeks.

The students are attending a band meeting today to discuss 6th grade band.  Students need to sign a note whether they want to participate or not.

I-choose assembly Tuesday at 1:35.

Wednesday, 8:45-10:30 transition day.  The fifth grades are going to meet with 6th grade teachers.  5th grade teachers are meeting with 4th graders. In the afternoon, 1:30-3:15, we are having a world day.  This is where presenters are talking about places they have been around the world.

Thursday, Field trip to Dixie Stampede.

Friday- I choose store and boy’s  puberty film.

Last spelling test is this coming Friday.

Next Monday is field day for the fifth graders.  If parents want to help, send a note. 

There will be an honor’s assembly on the last day of school at 9:00 a.m.

We are adding and subtracting unlike fractions and putting into lowest terms.  We have slowed down and almost everybody is getting it.  It is a hard hit skill in 6th grade.

Dixie Stampede field trip notes are due on Thursday.  Boys need  to turn in puberty film notes.  We are also testing reading levels to make sure students are on at least 5th grade reading level.

Friday, we are having 2 Civil War guest speakers .  We plan on having the MAP extra recess if it doesn’t rain us out.

A note came home yesterday for the field trip to the symphony.  Please get them in as soon as possible.  We are going next Tuesday, May 4,

The winners of the drawings at the I-choose assembly are going to Silver Dollar City on Thursday.

Friday, May 7,  is an early out.   Teacher training.

Mrs. Bartels is graduating with her masters next week.  Congratulations  to her.

We are studying fractions with  like and different denominators.  We did a very quick lesson over fractions before the MAP test.  We are going back over fractions and going slowly.

Field trip to the Dixie Stampede is Thursday, May 13.  Cost is 10 dollars per student.   Parent’s cost will be $20.79 and have to drive separate.  Permission slips are going home today.

Talent  night is next week,  Monday April 26.  Talent show will be held and work that kids did will be on display.

Last day of school is on Friday, May 21.

We are now testing for Map.  Tuesday is math, Wednesday is communication arts, and Thursday is science.  Make sure they have a good night’s sleep and good breakfast. 

Mid-term grades are coming up. I don’t have a lot of grades because of map review.  If grades are low, they will be easy to bring up if your child completes their work.

We are going on a field trip Thursday, May 13.  Cost is not know yet because we have had several fund raisers and do not know exactly how much each child will get.   Information will be coming soon.

There will be a MAP celebration BBQ on Friday, April 16.  If parents want to come , send a note.

We are working very hard to get in all the math before map testing.  Map testing starts on April 13.  We test math first, communication arts next, and the 5th grade will take a science test last.  This week, we are working on greatest common factors, prime factorization, and least commom multiple. 

We will be having a vocabulary test over numbers and operation words on Thursday.

We sent home a fundrasier last Friday.   We are selling “green” trash bags for 10 dollars for a roll.  The number on the roll depends on what size you buy.  Some of the money raised will help fund our field trip to Dixie Stampede.

Spring break is next week.  So far we get all 5 days.

We are taking a test today over the math definitions.  Hopefully, your child studied.  We are going to be finishing up geometry soon.  Monday and Tuesday we will be going over nets.  Nets are patterns used to make 3-demensional figures.

We will be starting soon numbers and operations.  They will be making a flip chart.  It is very important because most of  it  is on the map test.

Three more weeks of school before spring break.  On the last Friday before spring break, the students are getting out of school at 12:30.  The teachers are having training. 

Friday is hat day.  The students pay 25 cents to wear a hat that day.  The proceeds go to help someone or charity.

We have been going outside for recess.  It is starting to warm up. Still chilly, so kids need to wear at least a jacket.

The end of the quarter is March 8 which is next Monday.

In math we are studying geometry.  Students learned what a regular polygon and an irregular polygon is.  They know that a circle measures 360 degrees.  They have been drawing shapes that are congruent, similar,  or neither one.  They will be learning about symetry  and studying patterns.

I gave out spelling lists.  It is a vocabulary unit on geometry terms.  There will be a test over defintions of the terms.

Today was a make-up snow day.  We only have 1 day left to make up if we don’t have any more snow.  The next make-up day is the Monday after Easter,  April 5.

Spring break is March 22-26.  That is only five weeks away.  Hopefully, the weather will be nicer by then.

Monday’s assignment in math is 20.5 (both sides)  We wrote in our math journal about congruent and similar.

Tuesday’s math assignment is 20.6

We had a wonderful time at our Valentine’s Party.  Thanks for sending party items.  I would like to thank Kelly Lasher for coming and organizing the party.

There were four students that got to go to the Lightning Thief on Friday.  They read the book and answered took a quiz.

We are having school on Monday. It is a snow make-up day.

We had a math test today.  There were around 12 people gone on our team, probably because of the weather.  The missing kids will take it on Monday. 

I have most of the grades in the computer.  There are a few kids that owe me work.  If they have a zero, they are doing it and using there oops .  If they have used all their oops, they get a percentage off of their grade.  Mid-term grades go out in about 2 weeks.

We will be using President’s Day for a snow make-up day.  It will be on February 15.  So far we are getting all of spring break.  Spring break is March 22-26.  March 22 and 23 could be used for snow make-up days if we miss any more.  We are using April 5 as a make-up day also. 

Valentine parties will be on Febrary 12.  I will try to get the  names of students  for valentines.  We will have a party.  PTO helps and Mrs.Lasher will be calling soon for food for the party.

My kids will go on the limo ride next Friday.  They changed it due to the weather.

Next Thursday is DARE graduation. It will be at 6:30 in the gym.  Hope you and your child will be there.
